The Delmarva Shorebirds, a Single A affiliate of Baltimore, play in Arthur W. Purdue Stadium, seating 5,200. The stadium is named for Mr. Purdue because of the financial support his son Franklin P. Purdue gave to the stadium. The Shorebirds were playing the Lakewood Blueclaws. We saw a very good starting pitcher for the Shorebirds. He had 12 strikeouts in the seven innings he pitched. The closing pitcher got 2 more, so the team had a 14 strikeout game. The game was a shut-out with the Shorebirds winning 5-0. The box score was Blueclaws R-0, H-3, E-0 and Shorebirds R-5, H-8, E-3. The field lines are RF-309', CF-400', and LF-309'. The weather was really good for a change. They do not play "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at the seventh inning stretch. Sherman is the mascot. The Hard Ball Cafe is behind home above the main aisle and at the same level as the concession concourse. This is a nice stadium built in 1996. Ticket prices I feel are high for Single A, except for General Admission. First time we have seen a Credit Card line at the concession stands. Second location to have a turkey leg available at the concession stands. A carousel was available for the children. Minor league baseball fields are saving carousels on the east coast. There is a Kid's Zone for food for the children-- drinks, hot dog, nachos, popcorn, and a couple of other items each cost $1. New Logo 2010. 2021--Affiliated with Baltimore. Low A playing in the East League, North Division. |
