The Jacksonville Suns, a Double A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, play at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The brand new stadium that opened April 11th, 2003 is nicknamed the Jack. This is a really nice stadium with seating for 11,000. Our only concern was the low rise between the rows of seats that lessens a completely clear view of the field. The Suns were playing the Tennessee Smokies. The Suns tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and went on to win on an error in the 13th inning. The box score was Smokies R-4, H-10, E-2 and Suns R-5, H-8, E-1. the field lines are RF-317', RC-375', C-420', LC-382' and LF-321'. The stadium seats 11,000 and at the afternoon game there were 4,362 fans attending. There is a large bell located on the concourse behind home plate that is rung if a Sun hits a home run. The dugout seats are 3-4 rows behind home plate between the dugouts. The next 18 rows are reserved seating. The bleachers in right field do not have backs. Down the 3rd base line beyond the reserved seating there are several tiers of concrete walls that you can sit on or stand on. In left field you can stand and rest on the padded yellow fence top. Southpaw the dog is the mascot, but was not present at the game. They did not groom the field at anytime during the game. There was grass in the 1st and 3rd base base paths. On the 1st base side it was getting really chewed up by the middle of the game. I wouldn't think that the players would like it because their spikes could not get a good grip as they were charging towards first or home. They sold beer right to the end of the game. Usually beer sales end the middle or end of the 7th inning. 2009 affiliated with Florida Marlins. New Logo 2010. 2017 new name and logo--Jumbo Shrimp. 2021--Affiliated with Miami. AAA playing in East League, Southeast Division.
