The Corpus Christi Hooks, a AA Texas League affiliate of the Houston Astros play at Whataburger Field which was built in 2005, seating 7,500. This stadium was built in an old warehouse district that dealt with cotton. In left field is two of the cotton associated buildings and the compressor building that compacted the cotton bales. This is a really nice new stadium. It has all seats plus grass seating in left field and right center field. There is a great children's play area in left center field beyond the bullpen. You can walk completely around the outfield. It has an outstanding selection of food at the different concession stands. The Hooks were playing the Tulsa Drillers and lost 6-4. The box score was Drillers R-6, H-12, E-1 and Hooks R-4, H-10, E-1. The field lines are RF-315', RC-360'-407', CF-400', LF-235'. One of the Tulsa relievers was throwing at 101 mph. The mascots are Rusty Hook and Sammy Seagull. Rusty you will note has a hook for a tail. Attendance for the game was 6,937 on a bright sunny Sunday afternoon. For an unknown reason they spelled the word Laredo by adding a letter each time a Drillers batter was struck out. On the side of the Whataburger concession stand was a picture of a little league team wearing Whataburger uniforms. Near the team store, the Hook, Line, and Sinker, on the lower level is a porpoise that has been painted with Nolan Ryan's picture. Nolan Ryan is one of the managing partners of the team. 2021--Affiliated with Houston. AA playing in the Central League, South Division.
