The Tacoma Rainiers, a Triple A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, play at Cheney Stadium, which was orginally build in 1960. In 2011 it received a major rehad, tearing down the roof, adding a complete new front that includes suites, a new broadcast area on the thirbase side, new concession stands and restrooms, and dugout seating area. Seating is 9,600 in plastic seats. The Rainiers play in the West League, West Division. The Rainiers were playing the Salt Lake Bees and won 3-2. the box score was Bees R-2, H-4, E-2 and Rainiers R-2, H-6, E-0. The field lines are RF and LF-325', RC & LC-350' to 385', and CF a deep 425'. There is a grass berm down the first baseline and a four deck party area down the third baseline. The "R Yard" party deck area is in left field. The Rainiers bullpen is under the deck, while the visiting bullpen is down the first baseline. A statue of Mr. Cheney is just above the concourse along with several rows of the original stadium wooden seating. The light standards are from the old San Francisco Seals stadium..Rhubarb, a reindeer, is the mascot, quite willing to have pictures taken and sign autographs for the children. We attended the game with our friends Hap and Anne. Again we left before the end of the game because it was getting cold and we had a 1+ hour drive home. Then next day a day game at the Mariners and an evening game at the Aquasox. |
