The beginning of the 2003 Road Trip started on Sunday March 9th. We left home headed for Phoenix AZ and Spring Training of the Cactus League. We arrived in Phoenix on March 11th. On March 12 we saw two games at the Peoria Sports Complex. The Seattle Mariners beat the San Francisco Giants 7-5 in the afternoon game. The stats were Ms R-7, H-8, E-1 and Giants R-5, H-8, E-0. Jamie Moyer pitched 5 great innings. As this was a split squad game we saw the regular Ms players playing the infield in the first game and the regular outfielders in the second game. The Mariners were beaten by the Texas Rangers in the evening game 6-5. A-Rod went 0-4. The stats were Ms R-5, H-10, E-2 and Rangers R-6, H-11, E-3. The field dimensions are right and left field lines of 340', right and left center of 384' and center fo 410'. There were 6,100 fans at the day game and 8,000+ at the night game. On March 13 we saw the Mariners play the Colorado Rockies. Joel Pineiro had five good innings for the Ms. The Rockies won 4-1. The box score was Ms R-1, H-6, E-0 and the Rockies R-4, H-8, E-2. There were over 9,000 fans for this game. Weather for both day games was sunny and mid-80s. If you want shade you need to sit in rows GG in the upper box back behind homeplate and down the first baseline. Players shown are our favorites--Jamie Moyer-pitching, Edgar Martinez-hitting, and Jay Buhner in the dugout-hope he had sunscreen on his head. Sitting with Andrea are John and Bill, friends who we joined with to see games at Peoria and Surprise. We were sitting in the second row from the wall right under the KOMO booth. Ron Fairley is seen in the right window and Rick Rizz (sp).
