The Quincy Gems are a collegiate Prospect League team that plays at Quincy University Stadium. The stadium was built under the authority of the WPA. In the mid-40s to the mid-50s there were various Major League farm clubs in the stadium. Again from 1960 to 1973 there were lower level minor league teams in Quincy. Tonight they were playing the O'Fallon Hoots. The Doggy Paddlers lost in 10 innings 7-6. They scored 3 runs in the 10th, but the Hoots had scored 4. The box score was Hoots R-7, H-9, E-1 and Doggy Paddlers R-6, H-5, E-4. There is a grass outfield and turf and turf dirt infield. The baselines are RF-296, CF-405, LF-314. Since we were there in 2018 they have replaced the individual seats with bleachers with backs. Below the concourse aisle level are two rows of box seats. There is seating for 2,000 with 345 in attendance tonight. The stairs up into the stands are quite steep and require close attention when coming down. The game was to start at 7:00pm, but was delayed until 8:00pm due to a large thunderstorm. They grounds crew and GM were squeeging centerfield until just before the start of the game. Between inning entertainment consisted of three girls running along the 3rd baseline in catsup, mustard, and relish costumes. A group of children doing a dizzy bat race using a small souvenir baseball bat. Because the game started late it was hard to take pictures through the netting. There was a nice sunset off beyond the third base grandstand. There is a nice free parking lot beyond left field and the entrance to the stadium is at the left field corner, picture #1. The old entrance is shown in the second picture of row 1. The Quincy University football stadium is out beyond right field. We left at the bottom of the 5th inning, so didn't get a picture of the final score on the scoreboard. We attended the game with Andrea's brother and his wife.
