The Sussex County Miners, a Can-Am League Independent team, play at Skylands Stadium. This was a repeat visit from 2003. The stadium was built in 1994 and seats 4,200. There are backless bleachers on the upper level down both baselines. There is a Cigar Deck at the end of the 1st baseline. The Miners were playing the New Jersey Jackals and were stomped losing 19-3. The box score was Jackals R-19, H-19, E-1 and Miners R-3, H-7, E-4. The field lines are RF-330', CF-392', LF-330'. There were 300+ fans in attendance. The Jackals ran the Miners starter after 1 1/3 innings with a score of 4-1 with runners at 2nd & 3rd. The new pitcher hit the next batter on 1st pitch and loaded the bases. A double scored 3, so 5 runs in the inning with a resulting score of 8-1 Jackals. In the 3rd the catcher overthrew 1st and 3rd in order scoring 2 runs. The Miners used 7 pitchers. Rosters cost $.50. Herbie is the mascot. Mid-inning activities consist of Mascot race, and a Big shoe race. Attending the game were some Jackals fans including the Trumpet Guy, who we saw previously at the Jackals stadium. Outside the stadium is a location where for $6 a person can sift a bag of sand for semiprecious stones. There is a place to smoke cigars down the first baseline.
