The Reno Silver Sox, a team in the independent Golden Baseball League (GBL), play at Peccole Park with a capacity of 3,000. The field lines are even at RF-340', RC-380', CF-400', LC-380', and LF-340'. The complete field is All Field Turf, including the usual infield dirt areas. The pitcher's mound is dirt. All the lines are painted on the turf, so the batters cannot erase the batter's box. The Sox were playing their first game ever against the Calgary Vipers. The Vipers moved to the GBL this year. The Sox started out well, but lost 12-8. The box score was Vipers R-12, H-16, E-1 and Sox R-8, H-12, E-3. The mascots are Slugger and Nugget with K-9 on the back of their costumes. A picture is of D. J. Dixon is shown of him hitting a solo Homerun in the bottom of the 9th. There were several homeruns hit by both teams. Scott Schneider, one of the coaches who was a AAA reliever for Anaheim, was the starting pitcher. A picture of Olivia is shown of her winning her race from Home to Home against Slugger. One between inning activity has two contestants picking up 5 large pizza boxes, running around the mascots and back to the beginning without dropping the boxes. There were 3 upper elementary aged boys sitting in front of us who were collecting most of the foul balls that were hit behind the seating area. They then gave the balls to the younger children in the stands. Jim would like to thank Ben Deach for a game used GBL baseball. Ben, Assistant GM and game broadcaster, interviewed Jim for 1 1/2 innings while he was streaming the game on the internet. 2009 GBL no longer has a team in Reno, because AAA now has Reno Aces here.
