The Yolo High Wheelers, a first-year California expansion team in the Pioneer League, play at UC Davis in the university's Dobbins Stadium in Yolo County, seating 3,500. (A high wheeler was the first type of bicycle with a very tall front wheel and very small rear wheel.) The Pioneer League operates as one of four MLB Partner leagues in the American independent baseball league system without MLB affiliations. The High Wheelers were playing the Oakland Ballers losing 7 to 6. The box score was Oakland Ballers R-7, H-12, E-0 and the Yolo High Wheelers R-6, H-11, E-2. The field lines are RF-310', RC-385', CF-410', LC-385', LF-310'. There is regular seating behind Homeplate and bleacher seating on the first and third base sides. Recommend sitting in the back row on first base side as there is shade there. A ramp and stairs are provided up to the back of the seating. There were less than 25 fans. As a brand-new team, they weren't able to do the marketing that they wanted and will do for 2025. They don't play night games because the LED lighting does not provide satisfactory light. The field is grass. There are misters in the dugouts. We could have used them as the temperature at game start was above 100 degrees. The Pioneer League uses a pitch clock. Each team has six reviews of pitches that can be made by the pitchers or the batter. If the game is tied at the end, then there is a Knockout Home Run round with each coach pitching to his selected batter. The batter has 2 minutes to hit home runs with five outs possible. A swing and miss is an out and any hit that is not a home run is an out. If after both sides complete with tied homeruns, they do it again. There were three umpires. Netting caused focus problems on some pictures. Ticket prices are high for this level of playing and in comparison, with other Pioneer League teams. We met Rachel Bronson Assistant General Manager and spoke with her about the High Wheelers and the Pioneer League. She is shown riding a medium sized high wheeler up the ramp.
