Lewis & Clark Native Plant Garden Big Timber, MT |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Lewis and Clark Native Plant Garden is a beautiful garden created by the Rivers Across Lewis & Clark Sweet Grass County Bicentennial group. Montana native plants were collected by Lewis & Clark during their historic expedition between 1805 and 1806. Even though the plants were familiar to the Indians, these plants were new to science at that time and were considered significant discoveries. The garden has interpretive signs relating to the wonderful assortment of plants and interesting facts of the expedition through Sweet Grass County in July of 1806.
Inside the museum is additional information about the expedition, including many of the plants that were used for food in their dried form and local historical information about Sweet Grass County. The Lewis & Clark quilt has a neat prickly pear cactus square. |
