Next door to Old Fort Benton the museum exhibits tell the story of the Upper Missouri through the entire 19th century. There is some Lewis & Clark information.

Lewis & Clark cached the red pirogue and other equipment to be used for their return to St. Louis at Fort Benton. Sgt Ordway and part of the party left the Clark party at Three Forks and followed the Missouri back to Fort Benton to recover the cached items. Lewis and his men joined Ordway at Fort Benton after their exploration of the Marias River and encounter with hostile Indians at the Two Medicine fight site.
